March 17th! It’s a day of green beer, a green river, and even green milkshakes.
It’s always struck me as a day very much like Valentine’s Day.
There’s nothing compulsory about the celebration. It’s meant to be fun in nature and everyone is welcome.
If you look back on the history of the origins of Valentines or St. Patrick’s Day, there is violence, religion, and politics involved. The modern version is nothing like that.
A few years ago I had the opportunity to visit Ireland and I loved it. The people were friendly and inviting, and I could listen to them all day. I didn’t like the Guiness (shh…don’t tell them as that is the national drink.)
So, for today, I hope you can relax and don something green in the celebration of the wee leprechaun, the light and friendly lilt of the Irish voice, and the disposition of a smile and a wink as we get on with the day.
Irish Blessings
May your trouble be less and your blessings be more and nothing but happiness come through your door.
May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, And rain fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you In the palm of His hand.
Whether you have a drop of Irish in you or not, it doesn’t matter. We’re all the same when it comes right down to it. Enjoy the day. Take the time to smile and count your blessings. And, may the luck o’ the Irish alway be with you.
