Hello All! I hope this finds you revelling in the wonderful fact that Autumn has arrived. My fave time of year without a doubt. I simply adore the idea of wrapping myself in a soft, warm blankie and reading a book.
So, here’s the question… what are y’all reading (besides mine of course! lol).
Did you know that the best thing a writer/author can do is read. So, I consider it my most enjoyable homework
assignment.

Okay, here’s the last three I read–in no particular order: The Wedding People by Allison E. A woman, Phoebe, has hit rock-bottom in her life. She books a room at a fancy hotel to be alone in her misery only to find herself swept along with the wedding people who’ve rented out the entire hotel. This book is laugh out loud funny, sad beyond the day, and so poignant in that others don’t realize just how much of an impact they can, and do have on others. Easy, quick read and totally recommended.
My next recommended read would be The Mentor by Angela Douglas. Here, we have a thriller where a woman’s private work is stolen and plagarized by a woman who was supposed to be her respected mentor. Set during covid, this book moves quickly amongst the many characters including the enigma Karla… aka the Mentor. While not totally dislikable, she definitely leaves you with a greasy feeling of ick and perhaps even a tad bit of sympathy for her plight…
The Mentor will keep you guessing what’s around the next corner and shock you in the end. Great read.
And finally, Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke. I finally read this one, but was skeptical after all the hype. I will say, it was a very interesting concept in that a ‘traditional’ wife, mother, and influencer who cites the virtues of God, family, and truth, wakes up one morning to find herself in 1855 in a rustic and dusty home, with a family who are familiar but not her own.
This story is timely in the wake of our current political climate and the constant push-pull between the opposing sides. Natalie, the main character is an interesting study of dichotomy. She’s so intense, funny, and imperfect that it leaves the reader wondering which parts of her are real.
An interesting read that will evoke questions of self-righteousness, self-reinvention and how it can be justified, normalized, and even celebrated and vilified.
