Over the last weekend, I went to see The Super Mario Brothers Movie.
I know. I know. 🫣 I ask myself why too, but alas I went.
The movie was very much like seeing the game up on the big screen. In fact, it was the game on the big screen 🤦🏻♀️.
But here’s my question.
In the movie, words like psycho, crazy, and a few others that I don’t remember, were used in the movie.
The majority of the audience was young children. I thought these derogatory terms were basically taboo now? Am I wrong?
Books are getting rewritten and/or banned for the smallest of ‘improprieties’ or ‘old-school kind of language’, so why then do movies use that exact language in a kids movie.
Should words like “psycho” or “crazy” be used? I’m not for banning as it solves nothing. If you don’t want to read it–walk away. Same with a movie.
I didn’t find the words offensive, but I’m curious in this landscape of sensitivity what you think.
Me, I’m pretty neutral. The words are expressive and meant to describe behavior, not individuals, but they can be slurs too.
What are you thoughts? I’m curious. 🧐

Agree with you. I, too, am pretty neutral. I realized while thinking out my reply that I cannot use any words you mentioned to describe what the climate is like out there, lest, forbid, I get cancelled, or whatever else is done these days. So, yeah, I’m pretty neutral. 😂
