I try to avoid watching the news. I’m not in denial about the way the world, and the individuals within it, but to be battered with negativity over and over again, seems sickly self-abusive and utterly useless.
Please don’t tell me I’m hiding from the reality of life because that’s not true. Check out my WWW Wednesday posts here and here, to me those are observations and realities of life.
While some may think I walk around with my head in the clouds, I assure you, I’m very aware.
With the news though, it’s not simply reported but it’s shoved down your throat and it makes me want to vomit.
There’s no solutions offered. The reporting is done in a monotone of neutrality while I want to scream at the absurdity of it all.
Last night, I caught about ten minutes of a local news cast and they reported on a fourteen year old girl who was swarmed and beaten by a group of teens. Many of the by-standers video’d the incident and chatted casually as someone lay in a fetal position on the ground being kicked and spit on.
So is this the new norm? The news just showed a video and said that this type of incident is on the rise. Ugh.
If you’re an Auntie, a teacher, a parent, a brother, a friend… tell these kids that it’s not okay. Tell them its their responsibility to get help, to step up, to report…
No, I don’t care what the victim did. If she slept with the wrong guy, walked in someone’s path, or slurred someone’s name/mother/family etc. It makes zero difference.
Does anyone remember Carson Crimeni ? Everyone was upset because a bunch of kids just stood around and watched him be bullied and ultimately die. No one went for help. Like wtf?
It really is better for me not to watch the news because when I do see it, I want to the knock heads of both parents and young people, and that doesn’t get me anywhere. I’m po’d and the news has simply gone on to the next big story without offering any solution, direction, or advice.
Dump and run…
I need to really concentrate on the Wonderful, Weird, and Whimsical… It just makes the world more tolerable sometimes.

I so agree Faye. I get heart palpitations as soon as I start watching the news
Oh I know!! It’s crazy stressful isn’t it?! 😩
I agree, today I opened the local weekly news and front page is
TEEN SWARMED. I’m sure I heard and saw the same on TV News for the past two weeks. They don’t seem to be able to find anything more sensational to report except the latest fires.
Agreed! It’s all so sensationalized. I don’t want to hear any of it. It raises my blood pressure and makes me angry. 😩
