If anything can make you stop, think, and wonder about the past, it’s a visit to Stonehenge.
What a wondrous adventure to actually see and yes, even feel, the mysterious aura that is Stonehenge.
The entire site is rather mind-boggling–not in a ooooohhhh and aaawwwwe sort of way, but in a silent respect sort of way. I hope that makes sense.
The stones, are just that… stones. They’re not flashy… they just are.
When I visited, the misty skies added to the mood of the mystery. Questions bounced around in my head as to the why? who? and the how?
How did they get these stones here? What happened here? Am I standing on sacred ground? or perhaps a burial plot? or a place of sacrifice? Who masterminded this whole feat?
Experts are full of conjecture, but the reality is that we’ll never know and always wonder… Which I think is pretty cool.
A few facts about Stonehenge:
- its from the Neolithic Era and estimated to be more than 5,000 years old
- experts estimate that it took 1000 years to complete
- the smaller stones weigh approximately 3600 Kg (7920 pounds)
- the larger stones weigh approximately 22 tonnes (more than 48,000 pounds!)
- the stones have been chemically analyzed and determined to have come from as close as 16 miles and as far as 140 miles away.
- the stones are buried about 2/3 down.
- tallest stone height is around 13 feet tall.

There are burial mounds nearby and a huge ditch that was built all those many years before.
Stonehenge is definitely is a wonder beyond wonder. Thanks for letting me share. Have a Wonderful and Wonder-Filled Wednesday. Follow and Comment below.
