My Twisted Writer Brain…

So, How Was Your Week? Mine Was Out of This World. I Hope Yours Was Too.

Piper couldn’t watch the Rover land… Tell me when it’s on Mars, she says…

It was a week of mixed weather around where I live. We’ve done a 20C degree swing from way below freezing to warmer sunshine and gusty breezes. I’m ready for Spring but I’m not convinced Winter is quite through with us yet.

Wow…did you see the weather that hit Texas? That was out of this world for sure. You know if this pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that things can change in an instant. What hit Texas and all the disasters that followed for the communities and individuals, made me so sad.

It’s like a combination of bad timing, poor luck, and perhaps lack of planning. I wish you all well down there and sure hope you get back on your feet soon.

Did you get to see the Mars Rover Perseverance land? Was that not spectacular? In fact it really was out of this world.

When you begin to consider the implications of life on Mars its so overwhelming and exciting.

Did you catch my Auntie Says blogs on bullying? Sure hope so.

Did you get yourself a Pink Shirt?

It’s such valuable information! You don’t want to be a bully and nor do you want to see a family member subjected to a bully.

The story of young Carson Crimeni who lost his life to the actions of bullies as those around laughed and video’d him is a sad one. One definitely worth reading.

And Writers! All about Marketing this week. Such powerful lists and suggestions from Lacy Lieffers –make sure you got see both of the marketing articles.

On a different note. The literary world lost Jack Whyte this last week. Jack was the author of many historical fiction novels. He was a regular at the Surrey International Writer’s Conference and will be missed. I know Jack’s probably sipping a scotch right now and telling everyone to get writing. RIP Mr. Whyte.

At the beginning of the year I committed to submitting one entry a month to different contests. I submitted January. Yay me. I need to work on February and only have a week left. I do know where it’s going though so that’s a start.

I have a short story that I’m going to rewrite and submit to a local University Literary contest. I’ve gotten better at getting literary. lol. It’s not easy when it’s not your style. I’m working on it. I’ll let you know what happens.

Check out Word on the Lake Writer’s Festival. There is a writing contest that closes at the end of the month so if you want to enter you best get moving.

I’ll be teaching–though virtually! I’ll be doing a workshop on Writing Short Stories, Figuring out Freelance, and on a panel discussing Marketing.

I’ll also be participating in the Virtual Cafe Lit by doing a reading.

Great line-up and registration just opened.

Here’s the link if you want to sign up. Should be really fun.

  1. Sorry to hear about Jack Whyte. I met him a few times at Surrey & he was wonderful in giving me some of the best compliments on my writing that I’ve ever received. Thanks, Faye, for letting us know about the loss of this bright light in the writing world.
