Auntie Says...

There Comes a Time When Things Need to Change. Is Now that Time?

Whether I’m looking at self publishing vs traditional publishing, shifting up color and style, or rebranding altogether– change is one of those things that’s inevitable. That doesn’t mean it has to be abrupt and ugly… nope, things need to be considered and weighed.

I want to let you know that things will be changing.

There’s lots going on in life, in the world, and in writing. If you don’t move with the tides then you’re either going to be stranded, or find yourself in way over your head.

Lately, there’s been a lot of different stuff happening for me. The biggest of which is this shift to actively querying my latest manuscript.

After receiving so much praise and positive editorial feedback, my agent informed me that she didn’t feel she was the best fit for me but offered no alternative, advice, nor encouragement.

It wasn’t malicious. It was a business decision. I understand that, but still I felt blindsided and left to flop around like a fish out of water. If someone would’ve whacked me on top of my head they’d’ve put me out of my misery.

It was a day of reflection. A day where I wasn’t sure which way to turn. A day where I realized that focus was needed in order to move forward. Let’s move forward together. Photo by Faye Arcand.

So Now What?

I’m a great believer in all things happening for a reason and being where I’m supposed to be at this time of my life.

The spiral has stopped. I can’t pretend anymore.

I don’t have an exact plan at this point, but there are several irons in the fire that will propel me forward.

I love my blog. I love my readers. I will continue, but you’ll probably see some shifts and changes. Not too many because I can’t take much more this year…lol.

As writers’, we all know writing is a gamble. It chooses us. It gloms on and pulls us in so many directions that the good ol’ twisted writer brain is constantly in motion. That’s what I want to get back to.

I want to write more.

In case you didn’t know, I have two completed manuscripts that will soon see the light of day. I also have a third novel in draft form ready for some love. I’m not quitting by any stretch of the imagination. No one can make me do that. I love it too much.

So Don’t Go Anywhere…

I’ll be here. So, make sure you stay too. It’s a good thing.

Back to focusing. I must focus.

We all need to focus.

  2. Can you ask for more detail from your former agent? You know, maybe this is the perfect time to find someone else who will truly be excited to work with you. Glad you’re staying strong.

    1. Her reasons were bizarre to me but I’m thinking it’s also a blessing in disguise. I am currently refocusing my efforts elsewhere. 6. Hey, Faye. Super painful experience with your agent. Thanks for being real with us. But, seems like you’re released to go in a different, better, more powerful direction. Two completed manuscripts and a draft? Who can say that? You go, girl.

    1. Ah Thanks Nancy! Yes. The shock of it all has now worn off and I’m thinking that this new freedom may be a good thing. And thank you…you’re right. Not many people can say they have two completed manuscripts. That IS something to be proud of for sure! Watch out world…here I come.xoxo
