Do you remember when you were a kid and you got all excited about those new back-to-school shoes that you weren’t allowed to wear until … well, until school.

Ugh. I sure do. I remember pinched toes and the bottoms of some shoes being so smooth it was like walking on a sheet of ice …

True story: I have a scar on my left knee to this day from slipping on the driveway pavement in my brand-spanking-new Buster Brown flat black dress shoes. I remember my Auntie Olga comforting me when I fell. She was from another province so some family celebration must’ve been going on. But seriously… those frikken shoes (that I probably wasn’t even allowed to wear outside yet) were not only dangerous, but actually scarring for life.

I’ve worn every kind of shoe over the years.

  • Spikes (used to dance in the damn things too).
  • flip-flops
  • army boots
  • tiny wee Ked white runners
  • slip-on
  • sling-backs…
  • and lace-ups
  • $200 running shoes
  • dollars store slides
  • and let’s not forget the croc phase… 🙄
  • sexy shoes
  • sensible shoes…
  • and stupid-ass-break-your-ankle type shoes.
  • wedges
  • flats
  • and ballet slippers…
  • I’ve worn every color. Every sparkle. With bows and without…
  • there’s been black patent
  • molded wooden clogs
  • and lovely cork form-fitting Birks… ❤️
  • There’s been the elf bootie
  • the ankle boot
  • and let’s not forget the thigh high studded black leather boots…. shhh I still have ’em!

But you know what?

I’ve never owned hiking boots until about two weeks ago. Seriously. Why would I wear boots to hike… Just sounds stupid.

Well, it’s interesting how life works because I’m doing the St. Cuthbert’s Walk up to Holy Island from Edinburgh, this April.

First thing they mentioned was footwear. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I thought about sneaking through in my ‘sneakers’… aka running shoes… but they said the the ankle support was important.

Okay. Okay.

As you’ll remember, I fell last year while I was walking and tore my rotator cuff. It’s pretty much healed up now. Thank goodness it wasn’t a full tear through. But with that in mind I set out on a journey to get myself some hiking boots.

TaDa… here they are.

Nice Boots Babe!! Well, thank you. 😂

Moral of the Shoe Story….

Well, now I’m out there breaking in my boots.

They get the royal treatment as I wear them in my office and go about my day and then I let them venture out for short stints as we work our way up to full blown hikes.

Right now we’re up to about four miles at a time… just breaking them in.

Can you tell I have an audio band on under my toque? And in case you’re curious, that the dog’s leash that I’m carrying. The weather right now is so gorgeous, except for the biting wind.

Have a super day.

Let me know if I missed any of the great shoe trends over the years. 😉
