Yesterday was simply one of those days. 🤦🏻♀️
It actually started off pretty well. A nice hot cup of coffee, the sun poking through the clouds, and a slow, methodical unfolding of the day.
Lovely.
Needless to say, it didn’t last.
I won’t bore you with the details, but the day ended up being bookended by negative energy coming from outside sources.
I may have just invented the word bookended, but I’m going with it.
The entire slide to the day started with a judgmental email that arrived early in the day. It was a bit of a surprise and I simply shook it off, but then later in the day, an incident occurred that was remarkably similar. (To be clear, both were work related).
Sigh.
Has that ever happened to you?
It’s like one minute you’re hanging out minding your own business then WHAM… someone else’s shit smacks you in the face.
Normally, I’m pretty good at brushing it off. But not that day.
Nope. It completely zapped me. Worse, it got in my head where suddenly doubts, thoughts and questions occur.
You know… Like, why do I continue to write? Why bother? Is it even worth it?
Writing is a strange business. You spend months, sometimes years, creating something on your own and then send it out into the world where absolutely anyone can have an opinion about it.
And they do.
Thankfully, I also hear from readers who tell me they’ve enjoyed my books, short stories, or even these sorta ranty-type ramblings from My Twisted Writer Brain. Those messages matter more than you’ll ever realize.
Okay. Rant over.
The loopers in my brain are now all gone or put back where they should be… Just needed to get that off my chest and let you in on what was happening at this end of the world.
Phew! Let’s chat about fun stuff!
And speaking of books…Can You See Me? is officially one month old!
Have you read it yet? If you have, leave a review if you feel so inclined?
On a much happier note, I learned yesterday that Can You See Me? has been approved and ordered for the Penticton Library. That one made me smile. There’s something pretty special knowing your book will be sitting on a library shelf waiting for someone to discover it.
So, what am I up to now?
I’m working on the sequel to Can You See Me?, with a current working title of: What You Didn’t See.
Lynxa’s story isn’t finished. I’m back inside her world, going and doing what I’m told as she dictates the pace, story, and decisions. She really is a very strong girl. I will tell you that a lot of learning and valuable life experience resulted from her experiences in Can You See Me?
Those experiences that happen when you’re 18 years old, stay with you for life.
What Else? Hmmm….
Well, I’m also getting ready for Bouchercon in Calgary, October 21–25. Bouchercon for those who don’t know, is a huge (like 1500people+) genre (mystery, crime fiction, cozy, thriller, suspense) reader and author event. This is the first time in many years that it’s being held in Canada. I’ll be doing writer/reader speed dating, organizing the Author Fair, sitting on two panels, signing books, talking books, meeting readers and writers, and probably spending at least some of the week wondering where I’m supposed to be. So fun!

Then it’s back home and straight into spooky season.
October 27 6-8 pm! I’ll be taking part in a spooky author reading at the Summerland Library. Dark stories, authors and a library near Halloween? That sounds like my kind of evening. Check out the details HERE.
Meanwhile, back at home…

Piper is doing well and continues to receive her morning lick-lick, otherwise known as the all-important peanut butter treat. This has become non-negotiable apparently. She’ll whine and sing until she get it. I’ll try and video her so you can see what I mean.
And, Kitty remains just as sassy as ever. The other day he brought in a dead bird, dropped it off for us like a gift and then sauntered over to his food dish. Yup, sassy!
Kitty and Piper, they’re my reality and not my bookended day.
The negative stuff can be loud. Sometimes it catches you at exactly the wrong moment and, yes, sometimes it gets to you… I don’t think you’d be human if it didn’t.
There’s always new stories to write. Library events and travel. There’s spooky readings, peanut butter licks, and one very opinionated cat. That’s the stuff I’d rather give my attention to.
Until next time,
Faye
