In My Twisted Writer Brain this week I discussed Five Tips on Making a Pitch to an Editor. This is a must read if you’re a freelancer or want to get articles published.
And, I also discussed Five Things to Consider When Thinking About Entering a Writing Contest. This will get you asking questions and hopefully entering contests.
This week I also introduced a fun pictorial for Whimsical, Wacky, and Wonderful Wednesdays… The idea behind the Wednesday post was more about sharing different small things that pop up in life. Sometimes funny. Sometimes silly or beautiful… Anyway, they’ll be there on a WWW-Wednesday.

What did you read this month? I didn’t get a lot in as I was away for a week and running around with little people. I did manage to get some articles and one book read though. Tell me what you’re reading and whether or not you’d recommend it.
My first July read was the audio book Something in the Water by Catherine Steadman.
This book was touted as a psychological thriller and made the NY Times Bestseller list. While I enjoyed the book and finished it it seemed a little slow.
Now, that being said, the narration was done by the author and was excellent.
The first chapter started off so strong and had me hooked and then it cooled it’s heels until almost the end of the book.
I felt like I had to get through all that middle just so I could understand the beginning.
I’d give the book a strong 4 out 5. I say Bravo to Ms. Steadman for keeping me listening for the entire thing.
I really liked the beginning and the end and that’s important, right?
The New Yorker magazine is one that can be controversial, informative, and sometimes just plain weird.
Sometimes I forget that reading doesn’t have to be a novel. The short stories and articles in many magazines are great.
This particular issue was my inspiration for the my blog about Britney Spears and her ongoing fight against conservatorship. Very interesting and disturbing.
It is a bucket list goal to one day get a short story published in The New Yorker. A lofty goal perhaps, but a goal nonetheless.
