Will You Be the First to Write it?

I was scrolling through Instagram (could’ve been Facebook–they blur into each other if you know what I mean 😉) … anyway, I came across the following post from @thebloggess .

It’s funny because this really struck a cord with me. Does someone else have the same idea as me and doubt its validity? Hmmm… 🤔. Interesting premise.

Picture this:

You have an idea for a story or creative endeavor but ignore it. “It’s silly” you say. “Stupid”. “No one will like it”. Well, guess what? someone else is going to write it if you don’t.

If you have an idea, believe me, someone else in the world has a similar one.

Picture that idea of yours–it’s unique and fragile, just floating out there like a balloon caught in the wind currents searching for a place to land, then SNAP… someone else picks it up and runs with it. Say what?

Worst case scenario is that your wonderful idea that stayed in your head gets released into the world by someone else and ends up being a huge success. That would suck–BIG time.

So the question is–why arn’t you writing it? Stop doubting its worthiness and just do it. Heck, quit doubting yourself. If you have imposter syndrome, read this.

Here’s the thing, there are billions and billions of people in the world and if you think you’re the only one who has special ideas or unique plot lines then you’re fooling yourself.

What it comes down to is who’s going to write it first?

Experiences and styles are unique but if you do nothing, then guess what? Nothing happens! (I’m tempted to put three exclamation marks just to make my point but I think you get it.)

If you don’t write it. Someone will. Simple as that.

Go back and read that last line again.

If an idea/story/poem/song/plot is banging around in your brain, what are you waiting for?

Go do something about it. Now.
